DECEMBER EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH

 

The MST Board adopted Resolution 2007-10 recognizing Mary Archer, Planner, as MST Employee of the Month for December 2006. Mary recently completed the Designing for Transit handbook, producing a high quality document that will serve the agency and the community at large well for many years. She also worked closely the Director of Administration to secure $210, 000 in grant funds for MST from the Monterey Bay Air Pollution Control District, and Caltrans.

 

FORMATION OF AD-HOC COMMITTEE TO ADDRESS LTF FUNDING ISSUES

 

The MST Board authorized the Chair to form an ad-hoc committee to meet with sub-committee of County of Monterey Board of Supervisors to discuss local funding issues and possible amendment of the MST Joint Powers agreement related to the distribution of Local Transportation Funds (LTF). Updating current MST JPA language related to local funding of transit to match federal definitions and guidance related to defining populations served within transit corridors would result in an approximately $270, 000 of additional LTF funds from the County of Monterey. The MST Board appointed Director Thomas Mancini, Director Mike Cunningham, and Chairman Fernando Armenta to the ad-hoc committee.

 

AWARD $2,636,008 CONTRACT TO DMC CONSTRUCTION, INC. FOR MARINA TRANSIT STATION CONSTRUCTION

 

The MST Board awarded a $2,636,008 contract to DMC Construction, Inc. for the construction of the Marina Transit Exchange. The MST Board additionally authorized the General Manager/CEO to execute a contract with DMC Construction, INC. prior to December 31, 2006. Once construction has commenced, MST service will temporarily move transit operations to Seacrest Avenue adjacent to Seacrest Plaza.

 

EXERCISE ONE-YEAR OPTION TO EXTEND LEGISLATIVE CONSULTING CONTRACT

 

The MST Board authorized exercising the one-year option to continue a contract with Walters & Associates to provide Federal and Legislative advocacy services in Washington, D.C. Walters & Associates has provided advocacy services for MST since 1997. As a result, MST has been successful in receiving authorization for $11.9 million in special appropriations for the purchase of buses, construction of facilities, and implementation of intelligent transportation systems.
