The MST Board adopted
Resolution 2007-10 recognizing Mary Archer, Planner, as MST Employee of the
Month for December 2006. Mary recently completed the Designing for Transit
handbook, producing a high quality document that will serve the agency and the
community at large well for many years. She also worked closely the Director of
Administration to secure $210, 000 in grant funds for MST from the Monterey Bay
Air Pollution Control District, and Caltrans.
The MST Board authorized the
Chair to form an ad-hoc committee to meet with sub-committee of County of
Monterey Board of Supervisors to discuss local funding issues and possible
amendment of the MST Joint Powers agreement related to the distribution of
Local Transportation Funds (LTF). Updating current MST JPA language related to
local funding of transit to match federal definitions and guidance related to
defining populations served within transit corridors would result in an
approximately $270, 000 of additional LTF funds from the County of Monterey.
The MST Board appointed Director Thomas Mancini, Director Mike Cunningham, and
Chairman Fernando Armenta to the ad-hoc committee.
The MST Board awarded a
$2,636,008 contract to DMC Construction, Inc. for the construction of the
Marina Transit Exchange. The MST Board additionally authorized the General
Manager/CEO to execute a contract with DMC Construction, INC. prior to December
31, 2006. Once construction has commenced, MST service will temporarily move
transit operations to Seacrest Avenue adjacent to Seacrest Plaza.
The MST Board authorized
exercising the one-year option to continue a contract with Walters &
Associates to provide Federal and Legislative advocacy services in Washington,
D.C. Walters & Associates has provided advocacy services for MST since
1997. As a result, MST has been successful in receiving authorization for $11.9
million in special appropriations for the purchase of buses, construction of
facilities, and implementation of intelligent transportation systems.
