The MST Board adopted
Resolution 2007-01 recognizing Kenneth Walker, Coach Operator, as MST Employee
of the Month for July 2006. Kenneth has assisted in training new coach operators
as a Line Instructor for the Operations Department. In November, he was
selected as a DOT (Department of Transportation) Instructor and was
instrumental in the training of the most recent class of eight. He is highly
respected and admired throughout the transit community and has consistently
proven his professionalism and dedication as a Coach Operator.
The MST Board approved the
DBE (Disadvantaged Business Enterprise) goal of six percent.
The MST Board approved the
implementation of a 25-cent charger for a transfer and adopted new zone
structures effective September 9, 2006. Monterey County will now have four
zones – Peninsula, Salinas, North County, and South County.
The MST Board ratified the
Memorandum of Understanding with the Monterey-Salinas Transit Employees
Association (MSTEA) Article 2 to include adjustments in selected individual
salary ranges.
The MST Board authorized
staff to continue to purchase Liability and Property insurance coverage with
CalTIP, for an amount not to exceed $290,912. The rate for coverage represents
a 3.5% increase over the previous year.
The MST Board approved the
purchase of bind coverage for excess workers compensation insurance with
California Public Entities Insurance Authority, CSAC Excess Insurance Authority
for a new self-insured retention of $350,000.
The MST Board: 1) awarded a
$67,021.25 one-year contract to Evergreen Environmental Service; and 2)
authorized staff to extend the contract for up to four additional one-year
terms, under the same conditions and prices provided the supplier has provided
satisfactory service.
The MST Board awarded a
contract in an amount not to exceed $332,551 to VBN Architects from Oakland,
California for final design and engineering services and preparation and
delivery of construction documents for the Marina Transit Center.
The MST Board approved the
new Line 55 Monterey-San Jose and authorized the General Manager/CEO to sign
agreements with AMTRAK, Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority, and Santa
Clara Valley Transit Authority.
Line 55 is set to begin on
August 28, 2006. It will consist of three round trips each day – one during
morning commute, one during mid-day and a third during the evening commute 365
days a year. Most of the trips are scheduled to provide quick and convenient transfers
to and from Capitol Corridor trains that operate between San
Jose-Oakland-Sacramento, Caltrains that operate between San Jose and San
Francisco, and VTA’s bus and light-rail services. Total trip travel time is
scheduled for just under 2 hours each way. Fares will be $6 from Monterey to
Gilroy or Morgan Hill and $8 for the full Monterey to San Jose trip. Line 55 will also serve as the Monterey to
San Jose AMTRAK Thruway bus that was eliminated last year.
