The MST Board adopted
Resolution 2004-12 recognizing William Benoit, Coach Operator, as MST Employee
of the Month for April 2004.
The MST Board presented a
25-year plaque to Ann Armbruster, Coach Operator and Larry Best, Coach
Operator.
The MST Board adopted
Resolution 2004-13 declaring May 2004 as Clean Air Month in the Monterey Bay
Region. The MST Board also urges all residents to examine their role in
producing smog and pollution and give consideration to sustainable practices
such as ridesharing, combining errands into one trip, bicycling or walking,
keeping their car engine tuned up, insulating their home, conserving energy,
and recycling during May 2004.
The preliminary design
report for the Marina Transit Station project was completed in February 2003.
Later that year, MST entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the City
of Marina. The City has obtained the services of a design consultant, and have
scheduled a public forum to discuss the Marina Transit Station later in the
week.
MST hopes to have design
concurrence with the City of Marina by September 30, 2004 to complete final
design by July 2005. Construction is expected to be completed by September
2006.
The City of Marina’s
position on the location of the transit station has not changed from the
current site. The City wants to come up with the best solution for all parties
concerned. The City of Marina’s consultant has been invited to give a report to
the MST Board at the May meeting. A final decision needs to be made by the end
of September 2004, at which time, MST will start running into a time crunch
with regards to funding for this project.
MST staff will continue to
work with the City of Marina on this project.
REVISION
TO BOARD POLICY ON DISPOSAL OF EXCESS VEHICLES
The MST Board approved the
revision of current Board policy to authorize the sale of excess vehicles, and
authorized the sale of current vehicles excess to the needs of MST.
In an effort to decrease
potential loss and risk exposure, the lease program will be stopped and current
and future excess vehicles will simply be offered for sale instead.
TROLLEY
SERVICE
MST
is set to being trolley service on The WAVE starting Memorial Day weekend. The
Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce has contact MST to request trolley service
between the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Downtown Pacific Grove. The Board
directed staff to offer contract terms similar to the trolley service contract
with the City of Monterey.
