FEBRUARY EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH

 

The MST Board approved Resolution 2004-09 recognizing Dan First, Purchasing Inventory Control Officer, as MST Employee of the Month for February 2004.

 

RETIREMENT

 

The MST Board approved Resolution 2004-10 congratulating Carole Badiny, Senior Accounting Technician on her retirement from MST after 27 years of service.

 

5-YEAR SERVICE AWARD

 

A 5-Year Service Award was presented to Director Tom Mancini, City of Seaside.

 

MANAGEMENT EXCELLENCE AWARDS

 

The MST Board presented Management Excellence Awards to Lyn Owens, Human Resource Manager and Robert Weber, Operation Support Manager.

 

DISPOSITION OF EXCESS PARATRANSIT MINI-BUSES

 

The MST Board: 1) approved the lease of excess paratransit mini-buses to MST member jurisdictions or local not-for-profit organizations; and 2) approved the sale of any excess mini-buses that local jurisdictions and/or not-for-profit organizations are not interested in leasing.


SCHEDULE PUBLIC HEARING

 

The MST Board scheduled a public hearing regarding changes to Lines 2 Pacific Grove, 17 Edgewater-Marina, and 24 Monterey-Gilroy to be conducted at the March 15, 2004 MST Board of Directors meeting.

 

Staff is recommending to improve on-time performance and transfer connections on Line 2 Pacific Grove by spreading out the frequency from every 75 minutes to every 90 minutes and to improve productivity of Lines 17 Edgewater-Marina and 25 Monterey-Gilroy through slight reductions in service.

 

APPROVAL OF JOB DESCRIPTION AND HIRING RANGE FOR INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN

 

The MST Board approved the job description and hiring range for Intelligent Transportation Systems Technician. The new advanced communications system will require a technician for maintenance and repair during the warranty period beginning January 2004.  Siemens is contributing funds to MST to pay for salary and fringe benefits for this position for the 12 months during the warranty period.

 

PARTICULATE MATTER AND OXIDES OF NITROGEN REDUCTION DEVICES CONTRACT

 

The MST Board awarded a contract to Cummins West, Inc., San Leandro, CA in the amount of $537,824 for Particulate Matter (PM) and Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) reduction devices.

 

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations require the retrofitting of all clean diesel engines manufactured prior to October 2002. MST has a need to retrofit a total of 37 buses. Available funding only allows the completion of 28 buses at this time. MST will be seeking grants and/or other funding sources to complete the remaining nine buses that must be done prior to 2006 to meet CARB mandates.

 

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

 

The MST Board of Directors held election of officers and elected Director Fernando Armenta as Chair and Director Tom Mancini as Vice-Chair. The Board also appointed Hunter Harvath as an alternate to TAMC and FORA. Other staff appointments remain the same.
