EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

The MST Board adopted Resolution 2005-17 recognizing Fernando Manansala, Intermediate Mechanic, as MST Employee of the Year for 2004 for his consistent high levels of performance, excellent on major accident repairs, and technical innovations.

EXCELLENCE AWARD

Danny Avina, Customer Service Supervisor, was presented with a Management Excellence Award for his work on updating the Customer Service database management and for his work on improving and expediting the handling of cash sales.

FORA LIABILITY INSURANCE

The Board discussed the purchase of Environmental Liability Insurance for MST properties on the former Fort Ord through the Fort Ord Reuse Authority’s basewide policy.  FORA requires that insurance for damages resulting from unexploded ordinance or pollution be in place before a jurisdiction can begin development on their former Fort Ord property. FORA has stated that the absence of this specialized environmental insurance will not delay any transfer of FORA property to MST. However, FORA will not permit any development of MST property on former Fort Ord until similar insurance is in place.

MST is seeking quotes from other insurance providers to acquire a more affordable than the policy currently offered by FORA.

The MST Board tabled the issue until MST is in a better financial situation to purchase this type of insurance or when MST is ready to develop its property.  If  a more affordable policy is  made available to MST, a special meeting of the MST Board may be called prior to the end of the month to revisit this issue.

MARINA TRANSIT STATION

The MST Board reviewed two alternate concepts based on input from the City of Marina Council members and the MST Board members that comprised the Marina Transit Station Ad-Hoc Committee.

The MST Board endorsed the revised plan and directed staff to move forward with the project plan that includes a stronger connection to the Post Office, reduced employee and customer parking, provisions for a traffic circle, and adding additional green areas.
