June 13, 2005 BOARD MEETING

 

JUNE EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH

 

The MST Board adopted Resolution 2005-26 recognizing Gordon Brickwood, Coach Operator, as MST Employee of the Month for June 2005 for demonstrating exceptional skills in safety, customer service, and leadership. Mr. Brickwood has received numerous awards and approaching 27 years of safe driving.

 

SCHEDULE PUBLIC HEARINGS FOR SALINAS AREA SERVICE CHANGES AND NEW BUS LINES

 

The MST Board scheduled a public hearing in July in Salinas and at the July 11, 2005 MST Board of Directors meeting. The proposed changes would affect lines 43 Memorial Hospital, 44 Westridge, and 45 East Market-Creekbridge. New lines being proposed include line 48 East Salinas-Airport Business Park and line 54 Monterey-Airport Business Park.

 

MST/TAMC AGREEMENT FOR PROVISION OF TRANSIT SERVICES

 

The MST Board authorized staff to enter into a 10-year agreement with the Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC) for the provision of transit services to non-member jurisdictions within Monterey County.

 

FARE INCREASE AND REDUCTION IN LEVEL OF SERVICE ON LINE 21 MONTEREY-SALINAS via HIGHWAY 68

 

The MST Board: 1) approved the fare increase effective July 1, 2005; 2) approved proposed service reductions for summer/fall 2005; and 3) directed staff to monitor reductions and report back to the Board in six months.

Changes to Line 21 Monterey-Salinas via Highway 68 include providing rush hour fixed-route service between Monterey Transit Plaza and Ryan Ranch only along the line 21 route every 30 minutes; maintain one morning roundtrip between Salinas and Monterey; maintain one afternoon one-way trip from Salinas to Highway 218; eliminate service between York Road and downtown Salinas at all other times; allow the afternoon line 53 Pebble Beach-South County Express to stop at existing line 21 stops along Highway 68 from York Road and Torero Road and serve Portola Drive between Torero Road and Torro Hills Avenue; and eliminate service completely on Saturday.

 

Line 27 Watsonville-Monterey would be operated by MV Transportation using 900-series 17-passenger vans instead of full-size buses. Days, span and frequency of service would not change.

 

Line 28 Watsonville-Salinas would operate on a Sunday schedule on Saturdays instead of a weekday schedule due to low ridership.

 

Lines 9 Fremont-Hilby and 10 Fremont-Ord Grove would operate at 30-minute intervals instead of 15-minute intervals from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. due to lower ridership during mid-day hours.

 

MST SUCCESSION PLAN

 

The MST Board named Carl G. Sedoryk as Acting General Manager/CEO for a period not to exceed six months. The Board and Mr. Sedoryk will meet to discuss performance objectives.

 

ADJOURNMENT

 

The Board adjourned the meeting in the memory of Frank J. Lichtanski, General Manager/CEO. Mr. Lichtanski will be remembered for his 31 years of dedication to providing the very best transit service to the people of Monterey County. His quick wit, good humor, commitment to excellence, love of nature and wanderlust will leave a lasting legacy within Monterey County and the transit community at large.
