SURVEY FINDS MST SERVICES IMPROVED

A December 2007 survey of rider and non-rider opinions by independent consultants, Moore and Associates, revealed Monterey-Salinas Transit’s (MST) services have improved over the last year. An onboard rider survey was conducted to gain riders’ opinions while a telephone survey was conducted to evaluate opinions of Monterey County residents who do not use MST.

It was determined that a majority of MST riders are currently satisfied with MST and its services. Most riders surveyed rated MST services as good or excellent, with a vast majority of riders feeling that services have improved (77 percent) and currently happy with MST service locations (78 percent). The survey reveals that MST customers are most satisfied with bus driver safety and accessibility to disabled persons, and state that more improvement is needed in providing bus stop amenities including shelters and benches. The survey also found an impressive 95 percent of riders stated that MST services are valuable for the cost and distance. The reason provided most often by non-riders for not using MST services is that “they prefer to drive alone”.

This news is confirmation that MST’s recent service changes have been beneficial to riders. MST will use the results of this survey to continue to fine-tune our services to improve customer satisfaction and attract new customers.
