Service changes for local bus transportation provided by Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) will go into effect Saturday, September 30, 2006. Some changes reflect a plan to balance the agency’s budget amidst increased operating expenses, including fuel, insurance and labor costs. Other changes were made to improve efficiency and connectivity for passengers following a major study of transportation patterns in the Salinas area. A similar study was conducted on the Monterey Peninsula with those changes scheduled for implementation in early 2007.
The following lines will be changed or modified:
20 Monterey-Salinas via Marina: The time for the first eastbound trip on weekdays
has been adjusted to provide a timed connection with the new Line 55 Monterey-
San Jose Express at Edgewater Transit Exchange.
21 Monterey-Salinas via Highway 68: Substantial changes have been made to the
schedules of short-turn trips between Monterey Transit Plaza and Ryan Ranch
Business Park.
23 Salinas-King City: Special service added morning and evening to serve Palma and Notre Dame High Schools (Monday through Friday only when school is in session).
24 Carmel Valley-Grapevine Express: With the end of summer season, the last two evening trips are eliminated (Friday, Saturday and Sunday only).
43 Memorial Hospital: Minor time point adjustments along with route modification adding Blanco Road and eliminating Los Palos Drive.
45 East Market-Creekbridge: Schedule now runs hourly.
46 Natividad-Salinas: Trips are now hourly at :15 after the hour. On weekends, early morning and evening trips have been eliminated.
55 Monterey-San Jose Express: This daily express service between Monterey and
downtown San Jose offers three round trips daily with stops at these locations: Monterey
Parking Garage, Monterey Transit Plaza, Edgewater Transit Exchange, Prunedale
Park & Ride, Gilroy Caltrain Station, Morgan Hill Caltrain Station, San Jose State
University and San Jose Diridon Station.
